The following information is for Somalia veterans ... If you have contact please pass this info on to them.

GENERAL OUTLINE:


1 RAR will host a reunion to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the

1 RAR Bn Gp deployment to Somalia on OPERATION SOLACE in 1993.


The reunion will occur in Townsville during the period 3-6 Apr 08.


The reunion will be for all members who served in the 1 RAR Bn Gp in HRS Baidoa in 1993.


SEQUENCE:


The reunion will follow the outline sequence of events below:


* Thu 03 Apr - Arrival and informal gathering 'welcoming' at the 1 RAR Sports Club


* Fri 04 Apr - Dawn Service for all Somalia veterans and present 1 RAR members (including the 1 RAR Band),

followed by breakfast and a rotation of activities including modern equipment displays.

During the afternoon a BBQ lunch and an informal function will occur for all veterans at the 1 RAR Sports Club.


* Sat 05 Apr - No organised activities in order to allow individuals to re-acquaint with old mates.

A formal dinner in the evening will be the main effort.


* Sun 06 Apr - return to home locations.


ATTENDEES:


All Somalia Veterans of the 1 RAR Bn Gp, and carers if required.


Current COs of contributing units will be the only additional guests.


DRESS:

Dress will be neat casual for all activities, other than the formal dinner which will be coat and tie.


ADVERTISING:


Beyond the Somalia and Rwandan Veterans website, we will rely heavily on word of mouth to ensure maximum coverage.

Please give this some thought - the objective is to get as many of us together in the one place as possible.


ACCOMMODATION:


Individuals will be required to source their own accommodation for the duration of the reunion.


SPONSORSHIP:


Sponsorship is being sought to subsidise the dinner. If anyone has any ideas or offers,

60th ANNIVERSARY 12th/13th February 2011

The weekend of 12th and 13th February 2011 will see the 60th Anniversary Weekend being held in Sydney.


Plans are already underway, and we are hoping to make this a Reunion Weekend for many of our Interstate members to make the pilgrimage to join their mates for a wonderful weekend of memories and happy times.


I personally have been advising people from my old unit 30 WRAAC Barracks at Mt Martha, that I would like to see as many there for a Reunion as we can muster.

Welcome to our website and the opportunity to join us in the forthcoming Diamond

Anniversary being held on the weekend of the 7th to the 10th of November 2008 in

Adelaide South Australia. We will be celebrating the bestowment of “Royal” by His

Majesty King George VI to the Australian Corps of Signals on the 10th of November 1948.


It is envisaged that approximately 1000 persons will come to Adelaide in November 2008

to help celebrate the event and reunite old friendships.


A committee of serving and retired members of the Corps are organising an unforgettable

celebration that befits this special date. There will be numerous events surrounding the

weekend, including Formal Dinner, a formal parade by 144 Signal Squadron plus a

Family BBQ, side events and memorabilia to remind you of the times spent at these

celebrations.


Please take advantage of this great opportunity to get involved in this great event and

reunite with fellow members of the Corps.
